the cherry blossoms fall down. Boo. The weather forecast is not looking ideal for this weekend's run. Don't get me wrong - I'll still be out there. It will take more than a little rain to keep me away. Um, also, these days whenever it rains I remind myself that I am voluntarily moving to a very rainy place. A very rainy place, mind you, that I like quite a bit.
So, anyway. It's been intermittently rainy and windy all week, which means that the cherry trees are now, shall we say, past their prime. No worries, though - last weekend I got my requisite run in under the canopy of snowy-white trees. It was really quite nice - I ran past Arlington National Cemetery, across the Memorial Bridge, off to the right of the Lincoln Memorial and then just followed the crowds (ugh) all the way down the riverbank to the Tidal Basin. Hooked around the basin (the crowds here were big enough that I had to slow to a walk for a bit) then back up onto the 14th Street Bridge and up the Mount Vernon Trail on the other side of the Potomac to complete the loop. It really was a lovely run.
Today I left work a little early, and headed out mid-afternoon for a short 2-mile easy run - last run pre-race. Because it was so short and I was running to distance rather than to time, I went completely tech-free. I didn't even wear a watch. And it was kind of nice - in that respect, at least. Very freeing. Downside was that it is surprisingly humid here today. But what can you do?
If you have a chance, think good weather thoughts for Sunday. I don't need sunny skies - but I could do without downpours. Or lightning.
Also, the upcoming run is not distracting me from the fact that I am two weeks away from moving and four weeks away from getting married. Breathe, Sarah, just breathe.
