Time flies...

Where does the time go? I feel like it was yesterday that I was writing about frozen toes and first swims, and yet here it is, hours from another rest day. (I *do* love Fridays!)

By the end of last weekend, I was starting to feel pretty wrecked. Our Saturday group run went well: I got new running shoes, had a fairly successful 30-minute run with some nice teammates, AND enjoyed delicious breakfast at Whitlow's on Wilson. The hills on our route, however, were stark contrast to the nice, flat (albeit occasionally snow-covered) track I've been used to. Come Sunday, hopping on my bike for even my proscribed 20-minute ride sounded like more than I wanted to take on. Fortunately, Mother Nature sent us cold, cold weather, which made it entirely justifiable to stay inside on a cozy stationary bike. Add a whole afternoon of bad movies on Fox (Air Bud, anyone?) and the whole workout seemed much more manageable.

On the other hand, no one reminded Canada to close the freezer door already, and we've been stuck in the teens and low 20s all week. (All my sympathies to those of you who, at this point, view temps in the 20s as reason enough for shorts...) So it's been an all-indoor exercise week for me. I think maybe this exercise-centric life is sinking in a little TOO much... Monday night I dreamed that I was swimming my Tuesday morning workout. By the time my alarm went off, I was over halfway through the workout, and not at all happy to realize that it was all in my head.

Coming in to rest day, I think that sticking to my training schedule (even when I think "20 minutes? I could run/bike at least another half again as much!") has really helped me this week. I forget sometimes that it's been five weeks since I started this crazy thing, and it's not surprising that my body might need a temporary period of slacker-dom. As I keep trying to remember, the 2-hour bikes followed by 20-30 minute runs (I KNOW!) will come soon enough. No need to push it too much too early.

Separate note... thanks to all of you, who continue to bump that little swim/bike/run dude on my official TNT website along toward his goal. I can't express how much the continued support means to me, or overemphasize the little internal thrill that comes from realizing that you're all in this with me. I am so very grateful.
