Well, clearly winter is here in the DC Metro area. If I hadn't noticed the significant drop in mercury during my normal daily commute and trips-about-town, tonight's run certainly welcomed me to winter training with open arms. If by "welcomed" and "open arms," I really mean "buffeted" and "biting winds and driving snow."
Yep, tonight Pat and I ran. In the snow. Snow underfoot, snow blowing in the eyes, and snow sogging up my (previously) warm fleecy gloves so that I thought I no longer had thumbs. And the completely bizarre part? The part that makes me think that maybe the water that collected in my ears during my swim last night has seeped slowly into my brain and caused several neural failures? It was... kind of fun!
Okay, fun might be an exaggeration, and Pat and I did pass about five minutes of our run discussing under which circumstances I should NOT let him pester me into an outdoor run. (Freezing rain, if you're wondering, topped the list.) But it felt good to be out there, just the two of us pounding pavement (well, track surface) with just the snowflakes and a high school team of some sort keeping us company. And it felt good to finish the run strong and well and to know that that was the farthest I've run yet. Secretly, though? It felt BEST to plop into the car, yank off hats and gloves, blast the heater, and chomp on apples as we headed for home.
I may be acclimating to this exercise thing, but there's still a lot to be said for being done for the day.
P.S. - I know, I know! I promised Honored Teammate news! What the heck IS an Honored Teammate? And what's the news, already? I'm getting there... expect several posts over the next couple days. I just couldn't pass up sharing the snow run news first.
